about
For 27 years, Deanna Dikeman took photographs as she waved goodbye to her parents.
“I just took these photographs as a way to deal with the sadness of leaving. It gradually turned into our goodbye ritual".
The Self Help Group from Brighton(UK) return with the first single from their forthcoming album, "Dream of a Ghost".
Inspired by Deanna Dikemans' photographic project "Leaving and Waving", "The Empty Drive" is a moving, melodic reflection on the loss of the most important people in our lives, and how it feels to be left behind.
The song will be accompanied by a video and the band will be playing UK shows in support of what is their first album in 8 years.
They return to the stage wearier, 13 children wiser, and sounding fresher than ever.
lyrics
The Empty Drive
I have a thought, I see you wave
As the years go by
All my life, All my life you’re mine
I’m pulling out, I pull away
But you pull me back
To you arms, In your arms in time
Feel it get away but a click
And a moment, frozen, crystalline, never dies
You exist in dreams and in here, never broken
Never fading, static and sublime
I feel a force I feel a rage
But you cool it down
Oh your hands, And your hearts entwined
Put it all together in a book, a memento
Stitched together with a million tears
Broken hearted, shattered and bereft as you leave me
Holding onto you into the night
I can’t forget I never will
So I raise my hand
Waving back
From your hearts to mine, a line.
